peach dessert

I tried to do this yesterday but I failed to make it the way it should look like or even taste like but nonetheless, I am going to post it and maybe you could try it for yourself and share with me your success or failure :)

All you need in doing this is buying yourself a Gulaman/Gelatie powder and a can of peach or even fruit cocktail or any fruit topping you want to put in your mixture :)
Recipe:
10 g Gulaman Powder (as you can see, I used clear and unflavored but you can use whatever you want)
1 can of peaches (or any fruit topping you want), reserve the syrup
3 1/2 cups (1L) water
5 Tbsp sugar (add more if desired)

Instructions:
1. Put the water, sugar, and reserved syrup on a pot over hot water.
2. When the water is hot (not boiling) put in the gulaman powder and start stirring the mixture constantly.
3. When the liquid mixture starts boiling, turn off the heat and put the mixture in your molds (don't use plastic because it will melt).
4. Once you have placed the mixture into the molds, start placing your fruit topping and wait for it to set and cool down.
5. Place it in your refrigerator and serve when cold.

~chef notes ^^,
*Do not let the liquid mixture cool down while it is on the pot because it sets very quickly.
*The procedure stated in the packaging of the gulaman powder requires 4 cups of water but since I used the peaches' syrup, I reduced it to 3 1/2 cups of water.
*The outcome of my gulaman was very firm and I suggest that you add more water or syrup :)

inverted: enjoy!!!^^,

A Letter from a Teenage Filipino to the Whole World

The original author is Reigno Jose Dilao, a teenage student from Catbalogan, Samar, Philippines — Admin.

“August 23, 2010

As you are reading this letter, I bet that you have seen/heard about what happened earlier in our country.

Tourists were hostages of a policeman here, Rolando Mendoza. After a few hours of the horrible crime, some of the victims were dead including the hostage-taker.

I wrote this letter not just to apologize but also to let everyone know that we Filipinos are not all like Mendoza. We are loving and good-hearted people.

For so many years, our country has been standing tall and surpassing every dilemma; be it small or big. Years ago (back when I wasn’t born yet), you have watched us fight for what we think is right. We fought for the democracy of our nation.. The EDSA revolution. But that’s just one out of many.

Second. We Filipinos have been serving other countries for our families and we treat you as our own as well. With all due respect, I thank you all for giving us the trust through the years. For helping us to become what we are now.

The Philippines is more than just a group of islands. We are a nation of strong and remarkable people. A country of beauty and love known to be hospitable and well-valued. I humbly apologize for what happened tonight. No one in this world would want something like that to happen for life should be valued.

I politely ask the attention of the world. Please do not judge and mistreat us just because of what happened tonight. I have been searching the net and found terrible things. Hong Kong advices to avoid travels here, China and HK bans Filipinos and that Philippines is the worst place to go.

I can’t blame you for what you have decided but I hope that you could understand. Our country is now in a sea of problems. And I know for sure that we helped you in a way or another. Let peace and understanding reign this time.

I know that this letter will just be trash but I wish that you would understand. On behalf of the Philippine population.. WE ARE SORRY.

As a song puts it…

And I believe that in my life I will see an end to hopelessness, giving-up and suffering. And we all stand together this one time then no one will get left behind. Stand up for life. STAND UP FOR LOVE

Sincerely yours,

Reigno Jose Dilao ”

sunday afternoon

I'm sick but I still want to post something. :) I was lucky enough to have watched The Expendables and Step Up 3 this week. :) The Expendables is not that good, the film was somehow made for the main purpose of putting all the famous action stars in one film. It was very brutal, bloody, and loud! There were a lot of explosions and killings, its not really something that I expected... BUT Step Up 3 was totally the opposite of it :) I loved all the moves and everything that was in it! I was so glad that I was able to watch it with Jenny and Marianne yesterday! :D The story was typical and predictable, but the MOVES were just jaw-dropping! I would recommend you to watch it in 3D though because I do feel that the film was made solely for the purpose of 3D watchers. The film is pure of those stuff that will amaze you when it's watched with those glasses that makes things real :) I also love the cast especially Moose (Adam Sevani) and Camille (Alyson Stoner). They are a very cute couple and they really have the chemistry a couple should have in a film :) Step-up 3 has all the originality that will really amaze you, so you must watch it! Okay?! :))

Aside from movies, I want to tell you that I was finally able to have a taste of Red Mango's yogurt and waffles :D This is my second time to eat yogurt during this period of yogurt craze. My first was at White Hat Trinoma and this time (my second time) is at Red Mango.

Originated in 2002 in South Korea, Red Mango is recognized as the pioneer of the tart variety of nonfat frozen yogurt. Red Mango has now grown to over 150 stores worldwide, with stores in the USA, South Africa, Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand and the Philippines.

Red Mango combines its refreshingly tangy frozen yogurt with fresh and exciting toppings to create a nutritious dessert that can be enjoyed any time of the day. Free of unhealthy additives like high-fructose corn syrup and artificial ingredients, Red Mango’s all-natural frozen yogurt is a treat that is not only good, but good for you as well.

What I love about this place is the theme and ambiance it has. There were bean bags around for you to sit in and just simply make you comfortable. Too bad, there were already people sitting in those spots! :( Nevertheless, I am so happy that I got to share my Red Mango experience with my close and great friends, Marianne, Jenny, Dianne and Jerick :) It's a place that makes you want to stay for a very long time and just chat with your friends... I think it offers Wi-Fi and I am pretty sure that there are outlets available inside the store which means, you can use your laptops and netbooks inside :D Red Mango is the place that will make you want to come back for more yogurt and more experiences :) I also love their waffles and are the best ones I've ever had so far in my life. It is super crunchy on the outside and chewy and wet in the inside. :) Red Mango(Mall of Asia branch) is located at 2nd floor (near IMAX Theater) and for the other locations click here. Now, its time to let the pictures do their job! (^^,)

What I did

So.. I didn't get the results yesterday but I have decided to tell you what I did the day before... :) I auditioned in our school or department to be the host of a particular event particularly, the general assembly of all the hotel and restaurant management students this coming Wednesday :D I did this because I want to know if I can do it or just to prove to myself that I have the guts to audition for it. I was accompanied by my friends, which made the whole thing a lot easier because not only where they there but they also auditioned for the part :) I am just happy that I did it, for the reason that I did not have to think of the what-ifs because I did it :D I don't care if I will get the part or not, I'm just happy that I tried :) Be brave and be strong everyone! :D

I cooked sweet and sour pork yesterday, for the recipe click here. And here is a shot of what I cooked :)

Here's yesterday's twilight! :)

And lastly, I found a gift for my friend's despedida (farewell party)! :) This are in the trends these days so I though I'd buy her one for her laptop and mp3 :D

bye for now... ^^,

take care and God bless...

what's up?

I really have nothing to say that is too important but today was a good day for me even though there were a few things that were not good. Overall, today was great! Thanks to my friends who really knows how to make my day even without spending a cent :D I also auditioned for something that I don't really want to tell you guys, unless I am hundred percent sure of the results (good or bad).. :D I might get the result tomorrow so I will just share about it tomorrow! :) What also makes me happy today is that I have no classes tomorrow!!! There really is nothing new to having no classes every Mondays and Thursdays, but whenever its' there, I just get oh so excited :D But being happy also has its cons.. :( There are a lot of people whom I know are going out of the country to pursue their studies or life and I am a bit tiny bit jealous of them BUT it makes me happy that just this afternoon, my department's program head told us that our practicum are under negotiation and some of the places that are for us to choose from are Singapore, a cruise line (particularly Star Cruise) :D, Hong Kong and even some hotels that are around the metro... I am really oh so excited about it! :D I wish that I can go to Singapore or Hong Kong! :D Another thing that they told us is that, we might have a tour to an international country (particullarly HK)!!!! Now, these are the reasons why I am so happy today :D I just can't express it throught typing, but if you are to see me right now, my smile is reaching my ears. hahaha! The world is really full of possibilities and all you got to do is grab it! :D I know that this post is quite full of emoticons and things that might not make sense to you but I am just really happy that I can't even put a comma on my sentences haha... I am still thinking of a farewell gift for my friend who is going to China this 26! hmm.. I wonder what I should buy her or make for her that will be simply memorable?? hmm... Anyways, since I know that I am not really making much sense, I am just gonna end this post with a picture that could inspire you or just simply make your day!! :D

Oh! just as a disclaimer, the pictures I posted previously and the one above are not mine and if you want to know the original owners of it, you might want to check-out my Tumblr page... :D

After all the things that happened to me today, I must not forget God who have blessed me too much that there is no room to question or complain. :D Praise Him for everything :D

7pm dinner: Ebi Tempura

Okay! So after I posted my last post, I got so excited that I immediately went to the kitchen and prepared for this dish! :)) So here is my summary for cooking Ebi Tempura. First and foremost it is very easy to prepare and cook there are just a few steps you need to follow and you can have for yourselves crispy and yummy ebi tempura! Thanks to Ms. Connie Veneracion, because it was from her blog that I got the recipe for this dish! ^^, Preparing for this dish will only take around 15-20 minutes while cooking/frying time only takes around 5 minutes. And as always when I am out of words to say, all I can do is to show you the pictures I took while making this dish! :D Plus! Its on a step-by-step process so you can surely try this for yourself! :D Enjoy!

*note: I edited the measurements of the original recipe because I used a different size of shrimp and the measurements are just not the same...

Ingredients:
Serves around 3-4

8 medium-sized prawns (heads removed, shelled, and slit in half vertically so as to yield more)
salt
1/2 c. of flour
1 egg, beaten
1/2 c. of panko (Japanese bread crumbs)
3 to 4 c. of vegetable oil for deep-frying

*note: try to use less amount of flour and breadcrumbs, just add more if it is lacking so as not to waste them when there is an excess... ^^,

Procedures:

1. Remove the heads and shells of the prawns except the tail part.

2. Slice the prawns vertically in the middle so as to have a bigger portion. (do not cut through the whole thing! ^^,)

3. Season each with VERY LITTLE amount of salt.

4. Refrigerate the prawns while you prepare the following ingredients, flour, beaten egg, and the Japanese breadcrumbs.

5. Once you have prepared these ingredients, first dredge it with flour then dip it into the egg and lastly fully coat it with the Japanese breadcrumbs. (Look at the pic from right to left^^,) (I have a magazine page underneath so as to make cleaning easier ^^.)

6. While doing the 5th procedure, you must start heating up your oil so that once your finish, you can immediately fry it. As the saying goes, "fry until golden brown"!

7. And voila! (don't forget to strain all the excess oil!) ^^.

*my notes:
*I used this brand of Japanese breadcrumbs and it cost me Php36.75 (From SM Supermarket). I really do believe that this made my ebi tempuras very crispy and less oily! :)

*when doing the 5th procedure, you might want to use thongs and forks, so as not to use your bare hands which can cause a big mess :)
*In my pictures, there is a sauce in it which is made up of Kikoman Soy Sauce and sugar BUT let me tell you, it doesn't taste good, it actually makes the tempura very salty. So if you want to look for the recipe for the tempura sauce, check out Ms. Veneracion's blog :)

I am really tired of all the uploading that I did haha..! My next cooking venture is still unknown so for now all I can say is goodbye! :D

take care and God bless...

4pm snack: Pancakes

Since my parents are out of town and I don't have classes today, I decided to cook chocolate pancakes but it's not something made out of raw ingredients, instead it is with a chocolate hotcake mix box and all you have to do is to add one egg and half a cup of water, mix, and cook it to your desired shape :) I will just post some pics of it then, enjoy! :D

Since I am somehow taking advantage of my parents being out of town, I will cook ebi-tempura tonight.. I am so excited... If it is successful, I will post pics and recipe of it later tonight! I promise! :D

take care and God bless...
